Pune Tree of the Year invites citizens to notice, document and celebrate remarkable trees. The process is simple, transparent and designed to encourage broad public participation.

Every stage is intended to help people learn more about Pune's trees, while recognising the ecological and community value they provide.

Nominate: Until 30 September 2026
Citizens submit a remarkable tree with its location, photographs and the story that makes it special.
- 02View nominees
Review and shortlist: 1–14 October 2026
Nominations are checked for completeness, relevance and basic accuracy before a shortlist is prepared.
- 03Learn about voting
Public voting: 15 October–15 December 2026
People across Pune explore the shortlisted tree stories and vote for the tree that inspires them most.
- 04See results
Celebrate: Results by 31 December 2026
The winning tree and all shortlisted trees are celebrated through stories, photographs and public outreach.
Preparing a nomination
What you will need
A strong nomination helps other people understand the tree, locate it safely and appreciate the story behind it.
Open the nomination page- A clear location or Google Maps link
- At least one clear photograph of the whole tree
- A second photograph showing details or surroundings
- The tree name or species, where known
- A short explanation of why the tree is remarkable
- Permission to publish the submitted story and photographs
What makes a tree remarkable?
Every tree can be special for a different reason
Nominations do not need to meet every criterion. A compelling story, distinctive feature or strong community connection may be enough.
Cultural significance
Its connection with neighbourhood history, community memory, local traditions or important events.
Age and form
Its age, size, canopy, unusual shape, rarity or distinctive physical characteristics.
Community connection
The way people care for, gather around, identify with or tell stories about the tree.
Review and shortlisting
What happens after submission?
The organising team reviews each nomination for completeness, relevance, location clarity and suitability for public sharing.
Where possible, basic information such as the tree species, location and story may be verified. The team may contact the nominator for clarification or better photographs.
A shortlist is then prepared for public viewing and voting. Selection for the shortlist does not imply that the tree is legally protected or formally designated as a heritage tree.

Respect private property
Do not enter private land or restricted areas without permission.
Do not disturb the tree
Avoid climbing, cutting, marking or damaging the tree while taking photographs.
Protect sensitive locations
Exact location details may be limited where public access could place the tree or habitat at risk.
Share accurate information
Clearly distinguish known facts, estimates and community stories.
